no more classes!!

As of today, I am now done attending classes at DCU... forever. Now all I have left to do is write three essays and take two exams - not exactly the way I imagined spending my last month living in Dublin, but what can you do?!

I apologize for the lack the excitement in my life for you dedicated blog readers. I no longer feel like a tourist here and haven't for quite some time. I feel I've seen all there is to see in and around Dublin. Not that I'm complaining. Don't get me wrong, I still love the city to death - but I suppose now my blog posts are about a normal resident in Dublin instead of 'the California girl who just moved to Dublin!' --- I say this, yet it was not even a month ago that I traveled out of the country. I guess that shows how amazing this year has been; one month without leaving Ireland and my life is rather 'boring' :) :) :)

Hopefully I'll be blogging soon about my adventures to the Giant's Causeway in the north and Connemara near Galway. You may or may not receive pictures with those posts, as my stuff will be gone as soon as Lisa moves out. My last week or more with no TV, no computer, no dishware or cutlery (ahhh!), minimal roommates... ughhh. I guess that means no distractions and more time for studying! But all of that does have a bonus because...

MY SISTER WILL BE HERE!!! I am soooo excited about this!!!! We are currently finalizing our plans for our holiday starting May 30th when she arrives in Dublin! I'll show her around Dublin and Galway before heading to Venice, Rome and Pompeii in Italy. Then we will travel to Athens, Greece before ending our fab vaca in Santorini, one of the most popular and beautiful Greek islands. I am SO excited to see all these places, but most of all see and travel with my BFF who I have not seen since September!

A few things:

1. The craziest thing happened to me last night. I was walking home from a party when we came across two American guys heading in the same direction as us. I started talking with one of them and after a few minutes discovered he was from Boston. He asked me where I was from. I told him to guess. He responded, and I quote (obviously not a completely accurate quote with my buzzed state, but still...), "I'm not sure. I'd say somewhere from the UK because you have a bit of a British accent, but also an Irish one too. So where are you from?"

OMG. Charly this is proof, yes my accent has changed! An American didn't even consider the possibility that I was from America. I guess that's what 9 months in Ireland does to you. Although I am wondering why I'm getting this British accent response...

2. I'm sure all of you heard about the volcanic eruption in Iceland. This left an ash cloud in the the sky which has cancelled thousands of flights in Europe. As the end of the semester is nearing, I've had a few friends who were left extremely disappointed after their friends and family members were unable to visit Dublin due to cancelled flights. Ever since the eruption, no one has been able to leave or return to Ireland via plane. There are rumors of this lasting weeks and even months, which causes great fear for me as I have many trips planned this summer.

RTE News mentioned that because of the ash in the sky (which is not noticeable nor is it visible), there was to be a spectacular sunset. The first day we heard this we went for a walk to see, but were unable to see the whole sunset because of buildings and trees everywhere. Just the other day we coincidentally were walking to the cinema during the sunset and it was beautiful!

3. This week we have had the best weather since I've been here, and quite possibly the best we will get. If you are not familiar with Irish weather, let me fill you in. Unpredictable. It will be sunny and warm (probably not warm to you Californians, but you get adjusted easily). By the time you get dressed and ready to enjoy the sun, it will be cloudy and/or rainy. Not always, but usually. Although it sounds bad, it really isn't. I actually like the weather here and despite peoples' beliefs that the weather would be horrible here (ahem DAD!) it really isn't :) Nonetheless, this past week has been amazing! There has not been a cloud in site, which is very very very rare for Irish weather. We've been going to the park daily to soak up the sun. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE is outside. I even spotted some girls in their bikinis sunbathing in the park. Yes, in 16 degree weather which is 60 degrees farenheit. I'm telling you we are all perfectly comfortable in shorts and tshirts :) But as of today is seems like that weather is long gone. Goodbye sun, it was nice while it lasted!

I'll leave you with a photo from earlier this week, as I find these posts rather dull without them :)

It is April. Omg it is already April! As of today I have about three months left. Although it sounds like a lot of time, it really isn't. I have every week and every last trip planned. I'm done with classes in three weeks and done with the semester in five-ish. More importantly, I will no longer be living in my apartment which I have called home for the past seven months, at the end of May.

Upcoming trips that I am SO excited about:
1) Derry & Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland
2) Dingle, which is in the south of Ireland
3) MY SISTER IS COMING!!!! I'll show her around Dublin and Galway for a few days before spending our remaining two weeks together in Italy & Greece :)
4) Interrailing with Lisa for two weeks. So far we will go to Berlin, Germany - Prague, Czech Republic - Vienna, Austria - Zurich & Bern, Switzerland and end in
5) Paris, France... where I'll spend a week with Caroline and her family!
6) Back to Ireland for the LAST time (DEFINITELY NOT forever, but for a while) before heading back to California...

A few of those weeks in between I'll be writing essays galore, so basically the remainder of my time is all planned out and winding down :(

I have a very late update about our DCU volleyball teams: Both the men and women's teams made it to the national semi-finals hosted in Belfast. Unfortunately, we lost in the first match which can be blamed on half of our regular team missing, but hey no excuses... Our lads won the whole thing though!!

On to another matter... according to friends and family back home, I now have a bit of an Irish accent! This definitely isn't intentional, as I never even noticed it. But now that they keep pointing it out, I can kinda hear it.
